Grants up for grabs to plan invasive pest management in Far North

The Queensland Government is inviting Far North Queensland local councils to apply for grants to work together on invasive pest control planning and improve biosecurity capacity in the region.

Minister for Agricultural, Industry Development and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Communities Mark Furner said more than $400,000 is being made available for regional collaboration under the Better Partnerships project.

“Queensland faces more biosecurity threats than any other State and with the community’s help we are meeting this challenge,” Mr Furner said.

“We have now committed more than $1.3 million under the scheme to support the capacity and capability of Local Government to manage invasive plants and animals collaboratively across Queensland.

“The latest funding means local councils in the Far North can continue to work together to successfully plan and manage invasive pests at a regional level across broad landscapes and multiple boundaries.”

“Biosecurity Queensland will consider grant applications from Far North Queensland Local Governments, a regional organisation of Local Governments or equivalent body to develop collaborative partnerships.

“Successful projects could include the employment of a local coordinator to build stakeholder networks, improve regional pest management arrangements and plan on-ground works.”

To apply for the Far North Queensland regional collaboration grants, visit www.daf.qld.gov.au or call the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries on 13 25 23. Applications close on 5 May 2022.
