Fourteen-year-old Millaa Millaa rodeo competitor, Reno Bowen, has won the Juvenile Bull Ride Championship at the Hope Vale Bronc & Bullride 2019 with a sensational ride.
When just 8 years old, he started competing in calf rides at Malanda, Tully and Coen before progressing on to mastering steers.
This was Reno’s first-ever bull ride and he was certainly in top form.
Reno said that it was his Dad, Stafford, who first taught him how to ride bulls.
“I grew up around cattle and my Dad showed me a few tips,” Reno said.
“Everything came together for me with the ride.”
He said that what he likes best about competing in the extreme sport of bull riding is ‘the adrenaline rush!’
Reno said he ‘felt stoked’ when it was announced that he had won the Juvenile Bull Riding Championship.
He is looking forward to competing in many more bull rides and may one day branch out to compete in bareback and saddle bronc events as well.
Reno would like to thank Les Gibson and family for sponsoring the Juvenile Bull Ride event, as well as for donating the trophy, and the Hope Vale Rodeo Association.
