Carol McGoldrick founded a group this year called the Tableland Schola.
Our goal this year is to learn the complete “Messiah” by Handel. We will also be learning smaller classical pieces for fun and learning to read music. Men and women, boys and girls are welcome to join. There will be no audition.
In 2018, I conducted and coached a group with APA which sang the first part of this work and also added the Hallelujah Chorus. The group joined the Tropical Qld Oratorio Society and performed in 2018 and 2019 in Atherton, Mareeba, and Port Douglas.
I will be conducting and coaching the Tableland Schola. We hope to be able to perform the complete Messiah in Brisbane with whichever choir is performing with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra usually performs The Messiah annually at QPAC (Qld Performing Arts Complex) on the first Saturday of December with either The Queensland Choir which is conducted by Kevin Power, or The Brisbane Chorale which is conducted by Emily Cox. Those wishing to join this performance will need to submit to an audition.
A meeting to ascertain interest and a rehearsal schedule will be held at St Joseph’s Parish Hall, Alice Street, Atherton from 10:00am – 11:00am on Saturday morning the 22nd February 2020.
Rehearsals are due to commence on Saturday 29th February 2020 from 10:00am – 12:00pm at St Joseph’s Parish Hall, Alice Street, Atherton. Depending on interest, another night may be possible to alternate with Saturday mornings.
A small fee will be charged as the group has joined the Australian National Choral Association as a choir member, and this covers public liability insurance.
