Townsville Senator backs Cowboys in blockbuster NRL season opener at new stadium

Townsville-based Senator, Susan McDonald has congratulated the North Queensland Cowboys on their NRL Nines win in Perth, saying it’s a great start ahead of round 1 against the Broncos at Bank of Queensland Stadium on March 13.

Senator McDonald, who hails from Cloncurry and who will attend the round 1 match to cheer on her team, the Cowboys, said although it was early days, the signs were there for a season the whole North could get excited about.

“Josh McGuire’s knee injury is a concern but to see Tully’s Jake Clifford and Jason Taumalolo playing with such confidence should make every Cowboys fan excited,” she said.

“The federally-funded new stadium is a fantastic and distinctive venue that makes Townsville the epicentre of the NRL north of Brisbane.

“The Cowboys and their fans are fully deserving of it, and I’m looking forward to joining thousands of people to watch their first game in a packed house.”
